ReCept is First Texas Pharmacy Certified for E-Prescribing for Controlled Substances

 In News

ReCept Pharmacy is the first pharmacy in the state of Texas to be approved for participation in the nation’s first Limited Availability Electronic Prescribing for Controlled Substances (LA EPCS) program. This means that ReCept is also one of the first pharmacies in the country to be certified to receive live, controlled substance e-scripts with Surescripts, the nation’s largest e-prescription network operator.

Currently only selected pharmacies in California, Virginia, Maryland, Idaho, Michigan, the District of Columbia and Texas are eligible to be enrolled in this limited test area program.  Pharmacies must be using specific Cerner Pharmacy Management Systems and be certified by the DEA and local and state authorities to participate.

“ReCept Pharmacy is proud to be selected as the first pharmacy in the great state of Texas to be able to accept electronically prescribed prescriptions of controlled substances,” said Carmine DeNardo, President and CEO of ReCept.  “This demonstrates our leadership position in the field of Chronic Pain Management and further acknowledges our pharmacy’s edge in new technology and “old fashioned” customer service.  Additionally, having this unique ability to accept electronic scripts for controlled products will enable us to continue to ‘make people feel better.’”

Physicians will be able to begin prescribing controlled substances electronically through electronic medical record (EMR) systems that have been certified by federally approved credential service providers or certification authorities.  Providers must also be “identity proofed” by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and have two of three unique authentication credentials making the new technology one of the industries safest and most secure.
